One Simple Act

I am reading a wonderful book by Debbie Macomber - http://www.debbiemacomber.com - called "One Simple Act." Debbie shares her stories and joy about discovering the power of generosity. It is profoundly inspiring and will have a life changing impact on givers and recipients as well. At the end of the book she lists "Ten Rules for Happier Living" which I love - 1. Give something away - no strings attached. 2. Do a kindness - and forget about it. 3. Spend a few minutes with the aged - their experience is priceless guidance. 4. Look intently into the face of a baby - and marvel. 5. Laugh often - it's life's lubricant. 6. Give thanks - a thousand times a day is not enough. 7. Pray - or you will lose the way. 8. Work - with vim and vigor. 9. Plan as though you will live forever - because you will. 10. Live as though you will die tomorrow - because you will, on some tomorrow. Thank you for the very inspiring read! JLins

Spring

After the cold, dark Winter, Spring comes, and it truly lives up to its name….it springs forth life, new hope and beauty. There is so much to be hopeful for, no matter how discouraged we may be. Remember, there is never a Winter without the New Hope of Spring. Thank you, God, for the seasons! JLins

Happy New Year!

As we head into the New Year, 2010, I would personally like to thank everyone who gave on Ebove this holiday season. I am happy to say, many families had a brighter holiday, thanks to our generous donors. You truly are Sent From Ebove! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and please continue to support Sent From Ebove, and all who are struggling, that need our help. Many blessing to you. JLins

The Giving Season is Here

The holidays are approaching quickly, and the holiday wishes are starting to flow in from all over the nation. Spread the word ebove and beyond, to all of your friends and family that we are in need of kind, caring individuals and groups that can help make a holiday a happy and special time for the those who are barely making it. We need people to donate groceries or gift cards for holiday meals, warm clothes, jackets, christmas presents for the kids, etc. It is the season of giving, so give!!!!! My one holiday wish is that everybody who sincerely posts a wish on Sent From Ebove will connect with someone who cares and can offer help. God Bless, JLins

Always On My Mind

It has been a long time, I know….I promise I haven’t forgotten about you. I have been hard at work trying to raise awareness about the site, and always, always, always looking for givers. Did I mention, I am always looking for givers. Since we were on KMOV “Good News 4A Change,” we have been overloaded with lots of new and wonderful wishes from the St. Louis area. I am working hard at trying to find givers for each and every wish. I have been so busy, I have asked my sister, Cindy to join the ranks, first lieutenant. Cindy was SFE’s first Featured Giver. She has given to so many people on our site…….she is a perfect fit, she is caring and compassionate. I guess she takes after her older sister. You will be able to read about Cindy on our Founder’s page, coming soon. Also, I hope she will be better at blogging than I am (and hopefully, she will blog a lot more frequently than I do). More good news…...I got a call from Robyn Obermoeller from C3 Magazine (http://www.c3magazine.com) in St. Louis, MO. She asked if she can feature SFE in their next publication. C3 Magazine is a monthly publication, that is dedicated to celebrating philanthropic spirit from St. Louis, the United States and from around the globe. I really enjoyed talking with Robyn and her views on giving are very similar to my own. I hope we can form a partnership somehow down the line. Anyway, you were always on my mind….. tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn’t died give me, give me one more chance to keep you satisfied, satisfied.......JLins

KMOV “Good News 4 A Change”

When you get a chance, check out the segment featuring Sent From Ebove on Channel 4 in St. Louis, Missouri (http://www.kmov.com/video/), shown today on KMOV, the 9th of July. Sent From Ebove is helping people all over the nation, and it feels good. What city will be next????? JLins

A Match Made In Heaven……

or Sent From Ebove? Steve and I are in the process of forming a working partnership with our very good friend, Janene Ward. Janene has an exciting new idea that will send more giving and help Sent From Ebove. We are working out all the details, but we will tell you all about it very soon. We are very excited about this project! Also, a quick update on SFE. I met with Tara Nierenhausen, the Executive Director at Community’s Child (http://www.cchild.org) last week. Their mission is to protect and empower homeless women and children. A charming green and white 2 story house located in Lomita. What an impressive facility, and it was only built a year ago. When I asked Tara how did she accomplish so much in such a short time, she gave all the credit to God. Her faith has truly inspired me. I hope we can assist some of their families in need and also their organization in the near future…. another great partnership Sent From Ebove. JLins

It’s All Good!

Busy, busy busy! I want to keep you updated on the many great things happening with Sent From Ebove currently. Steve and I just met with Cheryl Alexander at OC Social Services last Friday. We had a great meeting with her and I wouldn’t be surprised if we started getting postings from families in need in Orange County pretty soon.

Also Sent From Ebove will host a table at the Mission Fair at St. Peter’s By The Sea in Rancho Palos Verdes (http://www.stpeterspres.org) this Sunday, April 19th (after the 9:15 service and the 11:00 service). Drop on by. We would love to meet with you.

Also, Harbor Interfaith has published an article about Sent From Ebove in their spring publication. What a great article. It has been a joy working with Jana Jones and Maya Uffhenimer and all the people at Harbor Interfaith Shelter. They are so appreciative of any help and are always looking for donations and such. Please visit their website at http://www.harborinterfaith.org. A great organization to give to!

Spring Sent From Ebove

Happy days…..spring is here, and it is a time of new beginnings. They don’t call it “spring fever” for nothing! Who doesn’t like a start fresh? When the fever hits, I feel the need to prepare (for what, I am not sure), by cleaning and organizing, helping as much as I can, and generally making things more beautiful all around. Yes,I love this time of year. It is that time of year to renew your commitment to making the world a more beautiful place, whether it is through your children, your garden, your work, or helping people around you in need. I promise, the thrill will take you all the way through a sweltering summer. (We can talk before the Fall.) Happy Spring! JLins

The Daily Breeze Sent From Ebove

Today, Steve and I met with Mr. John Bogert, () a columnist at the Daily Breeze. John's column runs on page two of the Daily Breeze, and I have just recently started reading it. The picture of him in a suit threw me off, but I have been set straight….....oh, the time I have wasted. Anyway, John Bogert is my kind of guy……. honest, funny, and very receptive to good works. He was glad to meet with us, and listened to Steve and I go on and on (and on) about Sent From Ebove. It is always great to speak with people who believe in the concept of giving and the effect it has on your community and beyond. Well, I am a fan now, and I look forward to reading many more of his columns in the future, and especially, the one about Sent From Ebove! JLins

Love Ebove

I think Sent From Ebove is catching on…..slowly but surely. We had a great interview with the “Great Earth News” http://www.greatearthnews.com. You can check out the article on their home page. The editor, Nick Tart informed us that Sent From Ebove had 2500 unique visitors last month. Now that is some good lovin’ going on there, baby! JLins

Ebove In ‘09

Another year begins and another chance for us to start all over. Along with the standard resolutions of eating better and exercising more, lets’ all make a resolution to reconnect with our neighbors and friends. Let’s all laugh a little more, and work a little less. Let’s give more of ourselves and give less to ourselves. These chances only come around once a year, so let’s do it! Here’s to YOU and 2009! Ebove For The Holidays

The holiday’s are upon us once again. I know it has been a difficult year for many, and a simple and quiet holiday is in store for most. I personally like the idea and hope I can continue the tradition next year. One of the ways Steve and I are simplifying our holiday is buying less, for ourselves and our kids. We decided to help people on the site instead, and truly celebrate the spirit of giving. There is no shortage of love this season, that is for sure. With that in mind, I have created "12 Ways To Give This Holiday Season" 12. Grocery shop for a holiday meal (Turkey/Ham and all the sides), wrap an open box and deliver to a family in need on Christmas Eve. Happy days!!!! 11. Pool together with your friends or neighbors and give a family in need a great holiday (including a holiday meal and gifts). A joint effort makes it a little easier for everyone. 10. Get a Christmas card and enclose a few gift cards (grocery and gift stores). Write a heartfelt note inside and send it to a family in need. Who wouldn’t be thrilled to receive this? 9. Before your house gets overloaded with new toys and gifts, go through the closets and box up the gently used clothes and toys and give it to a family in need. 8. Donate your time to a shelter to help fix and serve their holiday meal, and don’t forget to bring your children along to help. It is very important to teach your kids the true meaning of the holiday. 7. Take your kids shopping to pick out Christmas presents for a family in need. Teaching your kids about giving and compassion is also a big priority to me. 6. Buy stockings for each member of a family in need. Have your kids decorate them, and stuff them with little gifts and gift cards. Fun, fun fun!! 5. Don’t have time to shop for a family in need, send gift cards. You can order them right from your home on your computer….. easy peasy…no excuses! 4. Go out and buy a little Christmas tree and deliver it with some gifts for a family in need. It is sad to know that most families in need do not buy a Christmas tree for the holidays. We all need to experience the dreaded dead Christmas tree removal ordeal…it’s part of the tradition! 3. Buy tickets to a Christmas play or show for a family in need. What a great way for a family to celebrate. 2. If you don’t have a lot of family to celebrate with, invite a local family in need to your house for a holiday meal. How great would that be to make a friend, and the clean-up will go much faster. 1. Lastly, if you have done one or more of the above you deserve to take a break and celebrate with your friends and family, and count your many, many blessings. Happy Holidays!!! JLins

Ebove Your Neighbor

Last week Palos Verdes Peninsula News, our local newspaper ran a piece on Sent From Ebove (http://www.pvnews.com/articles/2008/11/06/local_news/news3.txt). A wonderful article written by Rebecca Villaneda tells of wishes coming true, people uniting, and the unique SFE concept of bringing people together the old-fashioned way. Steve and I really appreciated this opportunity to communicate who and what we are to our local community, because it all starts here in your own backyard. We believe it is important to reach out and help your neighbor first, and by doing so, you are helping yourself. JLins

Ebove is Contagious

Nothing makes you feel better than when you give! When times are hard, that's all the more reason to give. It's such a blessing to have the opportunity to give. There is always someone less fortunate than you no matter how much you have. Giving your time, things you don't need, blood, taking the time to listen, reaching out, and most of all prayers are all things that you can't put a dollar amount on but are priceless and can change someones life. That is so huge!! Giving is what it's all about! It's contagious! Once you get the bug, there is no turning back and Sent from Ebove is your opportunity to feel what I am writing about. You will never be the same again. Maddy J.

Ebove and Beyond Giving

Sent From Ebove has been testing for about 3 weeks now with our friends and family, and I think we are ready for our big debut. We’ve had some great suggestions from friends and family on how to improve user friendliness. We are also working hard to get rid of all the glitches we have come across. But, never mind that, the bigger picture is so much brighter……we have been actually helping people!!!!! The site is working exactly as I envisioned (without the glitches). People coming together to help people, and feeling great about it. A few family members were so thrilled with giving directly to someone, that they are ready to help someone else. What can I say, it runs in the family. We owe a very big “thank you” to Harbor Interfaith (http://www.harborinterfaith.org) for providing us with such wonderful families who have inspired us to give. Thank you, for giving to us! JLins

A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With A Single Step

We did it!!! We are ready to launch Sent From Ebove to friends and family. It took us one and a half years to create, build, test and market “our baby”, and let me tell you, it was no immaculate inception . Doing something great is rarely easy, and believe me this wasn't, but I've always believed with my whole heart that Sent From Ebove was a great idea and would be a success one day. Our destination is clear, but the road there isn't always smooth, and not once did we ever think of turning back. We're not at our destination yet, but we've made that first step and we're hoping you'll join us ont he next thousand miles. JLins

Looking For Ebove In All The Wrong Places

Steve and I just got back from a meeting with a local church today for a potential partnership. We met with the pastor, and she was incredible! She was very receptive and positive to Sent From Ebove (as our meetings before), but, (and there is always a but) since we haven’t launched yet and haven’t got a “Featured Family”, we really are not official yet, and, no one wants to get to the dance first, (or even early for that matter). I can’t believe we can’t find a “Featured Family.” Of all the potential problems I foresaw regarding SFE, this was not one of them. Can it be so, no families in need in Los Angeles? (Now that’s a story!) With all respect to Johnny Lee (link to http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Cowboy-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B000002H4B), are we looking for Ebove in all the wrong places? Well, we shall see, we have another meeting on Friday…...cross your fingers. J.Lins

Giving Directly

For me, giving directly is what it is all about these days. Lately, I have become quite skeptical about writing checks to big charities. I don’t know how my money is being spent and there is no connection to whom I am giving to. I want to do my part and help people in need, but the wonderful heartwarming feelings never come when I simply write a check to a big charity or organization. I know it is for a good cause and that is why I do it, but giving directly to someone makes the giving process real and personal, and it is nice to know that they are receiving every penny that I give. Lastly, it is nice to know, I have made a difference in someone’s life, even if it is in a small way. How awesome is that! J.Lins
