We are a big family. My mom has 6 kids, and I am a sigle mother. Since the economy went really low, we decided to move to Bakersfield because we thought we would have a better life over there. When we got over there everthing went worst, so we decided to come back to LA. We came back with nothing; without a bed, without clothes, and my kids now sleep in the floor and the only money I get is from the wellfare and I don't know what to do. If anybody could help me with some clothes, food, bed.

With many homeless families headed by single mothers, Salvador stands out as a single father. He credits his resourceful single mother, who taught all of her children how to cook, clean and manage a household.
On November 1, the Fernandez family moved into a two-bedroom, two-bath house in San Pedro. He has said that this the most important move that he has made because he gets to keep his promise to his daughter that she will have a home for the holidays.

My Story
Last April, a series of bad breaks led Salvador Fernandez and his four-year-old daughter to the steps of Harbor Interfaith Services’ Emergency Family Shelter.
Salvador enrolled his daughter Daniella in Harbor Interfaith Services’ childcare center, which gave him the time to find a full-time job at a local refinery.
When she first started at the Mary L. Gimenez-Caulder Center, his daughter would not speak. Slowly, with support from the staff and other children, Daniella began to catch on quickly and now she knows her colors and numbers.
Salvador so thankful for the childcare center’s help with his daughter that he has gone above and beyond the call of duty to give back. He can often be found emptying the trash, helping with maintenance needs and picking up debris around the building. He waves off compliments about all of his hard work, saying it’s the least he could do.

Harbor Interfaith Services assisted Chermyra with a Section 8 application in the month of November 2008. Chermyra signed her lease on April 7, 2009 and had been authorized to move in on April 10, 2009. Upon meeting with Cherymyra in her new apartment, HIS case managers noted that she and her son were doing well. Chermyra continues to attend Harbor College taking her General Education courses with her overall goal to get into the Nursing Program.
Now in her new apartment, Chermyra is in need of the following items:

My Story
Chermyra is a 23 year old single mother of a one year-old son. Chermyra lived with her grandmother in San Pedro all her life until age 20 when she was suddenly asked to leave the household. Chermyra then moved in with a friend in LA for 3 months; Chermyra then moved in with her child’s father in LA at his parents and stayed there until the summer of 2007 when she and her son moved in with a family friend in Gardena.
Chermyra stayed with this friend until March 2008 when she moved back to her grandmother’s home. The living situation was not a healthy one for Chermyra and her son so she moved in with another friend in Wilmington in May 2008.
Chermyra Davis entered into the Harbor Interfaith Emergency Family shelter program in September of 2008 with a goal of permanent housing, becoming a Registered Nurse and gaining employment. Chermyra had been attending Harbor College before entering Harbor Interfaith program. She has maintained class courses during her stay; she has followed all program rules, attended Case Management meetings, workshops and all required outings.

I am a single mother of two (8 years old boy & 6 years old girl). We moved 3,000 miles away to be free from domestic violence, however having a hard time making it on our own and facing eviction. We are just glad to have a somewhat safe place to live (although it was broken into). We are always volunteering in the local communities and inviting other kids of hardworking/deceased parents into our home to play games, feel safe, get homework help, gather at the park and just be off the streets where drunk men/gangs are.

Recent graduate with my lpn licence who has been strugling to get by with my little girls. Our gas was shut off last week, and I recieved an electric shut off on friday. I work part-time which just enough to keep the roof over our heads. God has now blessed me with a wonderfull job offer located 2 hours away in cranberry township Pa. as a full time nurse with lots of growth. I need this job and have to let them know of my decision by next monday. Problem is I dont have a penny to make the move let alone a security deposit for a place to live. If anyone could help I will someday be able to bless you back in some way once i have my job established! with great prays and hopes , sonia and my girls.

My Husband and I would like more than anything to be able to give our children a Christmas. This year we can not do that. The medical expenses and auto gas to go from one doctor to the other and therapies has depleted everything we had. Jessica has been a trouper being here at home helping when she can even tho she is in pain a lot of the time as well. Nathan has been through the mill. He has not been able to attend school for the last 2 years. He suffers a lot being isolated like he is. This year we don't even know if we will be able to furnish a proper Christmas meal let alone a gift under the tree. Even tho they know we can not afford it does not make it better. I am a mother of 3. Oldest son is 23 and is Proudly serving our Country in Iraq. Middle daughter just turned 18 and has hopes of going to College. Youngest son is 14 and has been gravely ill for the past 2 years. He suffers from a roup of extremely rare conditions Chiari Malformation of the Brain, Ehlers Danlos, Pseudo-tumor Cerebri, Tethered Spinal Cord and Arachnoid cysts. He has had 3 major brain and 4 major spine surgeries in the last year. We have been gone so much and have had toleave our daughter behind due to school. She also suffers from Ehlers Danlos that is very painful at times. My husband works all the hours he can but it still is never enough to cover daily expenses. I love them all.

My children are very smart. They work hard to get good grades and to please me. Cachette is 17 and Khidell is 11. I would like to get them a few item for christmas but with my part-time job as a teachers aid my money only covers rent and bills. Lately I have been going to the free food banks to get by. I would like to give them a nice christmas dinner and a christmas tree but until i finish school can not provide nothing but basic food items. We have been eating cereal and sandwiches every say for about five months. I wish I can give them each new shoes and clothes. Cachette keeps asking me for a digital camera because she want to study photography and Khidell want to be a Biologist. He loves science. I would like to give him some science books and video games.

I am a single mother with two children under 18. I have been going to school full time for the past four years because I want to be a teacher. Trying to raise children and go to school is tough because I feel that I am negecting them when I am at school but I know that by me going that I will motivate them to go to college also. I have not been able to give them many of the toys and gadgets their friends have. But I give them a sense of worth and family that I never had. Just like everyone I am having financial problems, I got sick and did not get paid, so I have no paycheck, no money and my child needs things. My Story
Letticia was one of 10 children raised by her grandmother. She left home at age 17 and was doing well on her own, until she found herself alone and four months pregnant. When her pregnancy became high-risk she was forced to stop working. She slept on friends' and families' couches and even in her van until her aunt told her about Harbor Interfaith. She entered Harbor Interfaith's Emergency Shelter program last spring, while in her third trimester but still managed to attend GED courses. Shortly after entering the program, Letticia had her baby boy, Vincent. Now Letticia and Vincent are living in their own apartment. Letticia is attending nursing classes and volunteering in the community while Vincent attends World Tot Preschool. They are doing very well, but still need a bit of help to make their house a home.

Ana and her girls have finally secured a place they can now call home. Ana supports the family with Cal Works grant and a part-time employment. Ana is unable to work full time due to her oldest daughter who needs constant care. Ana is especially happy that her daughter is finally able to get the medical attention she needs. She is also happy that the girls have a place were they feel safe and loved.

My Story
Ana Maria Cortez is a single mother of three. Her eldest daughter has Cerebral Palsy and is unable to walk or communicate verbally. She can not sit up or eat without assistance, and needs the constant care of her mother. Despite the struggles, Ana Cortez has been taking good care of “her little angel” for the past seventeen years. Ana also has two other daughters ages 13 and 11, who do their best to take care of their elder sister. The four of them have endured many years of hardship and poverty.
Prior to coming to Harbor Interfaith Ana Maria Cortez was a victim of domestic violence for sixteen years. When she decided to leave her husband to escape the physical, verbal, and sexual abuse in hopes of a better life for her and her children. The four of them fled by sneaking away in the middle of the night with the few possessions they could carry.

My Story
Harbor Interfaith Services provides a licensed preschool, after-school program, and full-time summer daycare in order to help homeless parents concentrate on the goals that will lift them and their families out of the cycle of poverty. This year’s fundraising gala, Building on a Dream, will help to raise a portion of the $3 million needed to expand our facility to include a larger preschool and Family Resource Center, room for twice as many infants and toddlers, and an after school and summer day camp program with a renewed focus on academics and parental involvement. With our expanded facility, we will be better able to assist our community and provide for a large number of families in need.

I am on the verge of losing the last thing that our family has: our home. It's not the greatest of homes; it is in dire need of repair, but we love our home and I'm willing to do just about anything to try and save it. We have lived here for the past 12 years and unless I can find a way to generate $50,000, we could very well be on the streets. It seems like such a large amount. It's more than what most people make in a year --- but I think it's all about how you look at things. $50,000 is a lot and way too much to ask of anyone ... but $5 is not that much ... do you think that there are 10,000 people in Southern California that would be willing to donate $5 to help save a family from losing their home?
My Story
I have always tried to leave my corner of the world better than how I found it. I do volunteer work, participate in my children's education, and try to help others if I can. Believe me, I have flaws too, I am definitely not implying that I am better or more deserving than anyone else. In my community service, I have never been able to do anything "news-worthy", but I hope that the things I do are appreciated by the 1-2 people that I try to affect at a time. I have owned and operated a home-based business for the past eight years, for the first six years, we had moderate success, but with the downturn in the economy, our business has definitely suffered. I have struggled to keep our family afloat for the past two years and now the ship is definitely sinking, even the rats have abandoned ship.

I wish that my home was paid for and all the rain damage was fixed. I cant work bc of a mva which left me in a halo and back brace. Just last week i appealed ssi/disability. My youngest son who is autistic just recently turned 11 and his older brother was supposed to get him a x-box 360 for his birthday as we could not afford one. Right before his b-day my eldest son quit his job and left the state without even saying goodbye to us much less happy birthday to his brother. My youngest son is missing his brother terribly as he didn't even receive a b-day card. I think if he received a bunch of cards and maybe a donation of a dollar or more we could get him what he was promised. thank you in advance for even reading this.

I am a 37 year old married mother of two boys. My oldest is 18 and just moved out and my youngest is 10 years old and autistic and is at home with me. I am married to a wonderful man named rich. I am bipolar and agoraphobic so I am not able to leave my house except for rare occasions. I was adopted as a 2yr old in the state of georgia and now live in chandler, arizona. I found my birth mother 9 years ago and found out that I had 7 brothers and sisters. Unfortunatly, I also found out that all of them including my mother have the mentality of first graders and they all live in the backwoods of georgia in a house with no windows or doors. You can imagine my surprise but I guess it explained alot about my mental problems. Aside from all that, I have led a pretty good life. I was blessed with a husband who has loved me and stood by me through my problems and has done everything he can to be the backbone of my family. My sons are beautiful and have so far turned out wonderfully. My only failing with them I think is that because of my agoraphobia, I have not been able to be as involved with them or their activities as I wish I could be. It is more difficult with my 10 year old because he is autistic and needs extra help all the time. All in all, my life is a good one, I know there are so many people out there who are worse off than me and I try to help whenever and with whatever I can. Now that I have found this website, I will be able to do it more from my home. Anyway, For anyone reading this, bless you and I hope your wishes all come true.

I am middle aged with two children and lost my job last summer. So far none of my job interviews have resulted in employment. I send out resumes and apply every day for ANY work. My savings in gone. I have no finances available to me. I have been a productive member of society all my life and now I find myself alone and absolutely broke. I was given an eviction notice. I can't pay rent, utilities or buy food or gasoline. I am scared to death at the threats of being homeless. I need the kindness of others in answer to my prayers. I am not a trouble young lady and it was not my actions that got me in this situation. All I was looking foward to was starting my first year in high school and instead I am try to provide and learn how to love and care for a baby. I was raped by a young man that I thought would never do something like this to me. It happened one night after dance practice I was so scared and thought it was my fault so I did not tell anyone but my cousin and she said everything will be ok shortly after that day I realized I was pregnant and my cousin told me not to tell that she would help me but then she left. My name is LaDonna and I am currently six an a half months pregnant with my first child. My child is due in the month of October, wich is the month that my job lays off workers. It is unfortonate that I will be one of the worker to be laid off due to my pregnacy. I currently work 5 days a week and I still feel like I'm not able to make ends meet with my income. I am a victim of domestic violence and a month ago I relocated far from my hometown to a transitional housing program to escape the abuse. I have no support system my friends are back home and family too. I never thought about how hard it would be financially. I had a bad car accident where someone slammed into me leaving me with many injuries. I had to have a spine surgery where they removed 2 of my disks. And I can't work because of this.

I am currently appealing my disability denial. I am having a hard time getting disability because I have worked all my life. I just recently donated all my children's smaller clothes to a family in need and I really need some help getting my children winter clothes and school supplies (backpack, pencils, folders...)because the money simply ain't there for me to do it right now. My son has special needs and my daughter was born with Macrocephaly and had physical therapy once a week which makes taking care of them is a full time job in itself. My son really wants these two outfits from old navy but anything from anywhere would be greatly appreciated. My Story
Maria graduated from Harbor Interfaith Services on August 29, 2008. During her time there Maria followed all program rules, met regularly with her case manager, made her deposits on time and attended ESL courses. With the assistance of Harbor Interfaith Services, Maria completed a Section 8 application. Since then, Maria has signed her lease and was authorized to move into an apartment on April 16, 2009. A case manager checking in on her progress since leaving the program found that Maria and her family have continued to do well!

I am a grateful recovering addict with 4 years clean.Who will be starting school in the spring for the first time in 15 years. My boyfriend has a job. But hours got cut in half. My name is Laurian Morris and I am a mom to an amazing 16 years old daughter. Growing up I was taught to work real hard for the things you want in life. Cristian is a 14 year old burn survivor who has been attending our Camp Beyond the Scars since 2006. During one of our camps, he spoke about his parent’s recent divorce and how it has affected him. Following camp, we followed up with the family to offer free counseling services to him and/or his family. We also have him enrolled in our Mentorship Program (based off the Big Brother Big Sister Program). We have him matched with an adult burn survivor. In this program we require that both the mentor (adult) and mentee (child & parent) submit a log after each visit via e-mail reporting about their adventures. After learning that his family does not have a computer or internet access, it is our goal to help seek this out for Cristian and his family. Not only to participate in our Mentorship Program but to assist Cristian in his educational needs.

The Burn Institute is a non-profit agency dedicated to reducing burn injuries and deaths in San Diego County. One of the Institute’s first accomplishments was the establishment of the UCSD Regional Burn Center. The Institute reaches thousands of children and adults each year with lifesaving fire and burn prevention education; and conducts burn survivor support programs that help children and adults cope with the devastating psychological and physical effects of their injuries. Support Program include: Camp Beyond the Scars Summer and Winter, monthly Adult Burn Survivor and Caregiver Peer Support Groups, Mentorship Program, Leaders-In-Training Program, Peer Support Program, Emergency Needs/Special Assistance Program, Scholarships, and Counseling/Therapy Services.

A friend of mine told me about this site, so I thought I would give it a try. I will make it simple, and am not going to ask for laptops, or i pods. I am in need of newborn baby clothes. I dont have too much at this point. The doctor had to stop my labor once and I am only 33 weeks. I dont have to much longer until the baby comes. I need bibs, nuetral colors, bottles, hates, snow suites, binkies, basic hygiene products, newborn diapers,onsies, i basically need everything. It is a struggle for me. Amber Rentie is a single mother with a six year old daughter who recently enrolled into Harbor Interfaith Services' shelter program. Amber is currently working hard as a student at Long Beach Community College and needs a few things to get started in her apartment: 1) a couch 2) a bed (she currently shares a twin sized bed with her daughter) 3) extra blankets and sheets for a twin sized bed 4) silverware 5) women's clothing (pants size 16-18; shoes 8-8 1/2; medium shirts) 6) girl's clothing (pants size 6x; shirts size 6; shoes 12).
My Story
Before entering Harbor Interfaith Services, Amber and her daughter shared an apartment with her boyfriend. After he was laid off the family found it hard to make rent and eventually got evicted with Amber and her boyfriend going their separate ways. When Amber's next living situation resulted in conflicts with a new roommate, she was faced with the decision to leave and start anew again. Amber enrolled in Harbor Interfaith in December and is now pursuing a degree in Human Support Services. She hopes to eventually be able to work with at risk youth or disabled adults.

Courage. Strength. Resilience. These are three words that come to mind when hearing Rhonda Morrison’s story. Rhonda is a recently divorced mother of three boys ages 16, 13 and 5. Like many others, her journey to Harbor Interfaith Services was not an easy one. But now that she has successfully graduated from our Accelerated Learning and Living program, she and her family need a few items to complete their newly established home. Bunk beds for her sons, a computer desk with a chair, curtains in the living rooms and bedrooms for privacy (contact for measurements), silverware and lastly a television.
My Story
Prior to entering Harbor Interfaith Services, Rhonda was a newlywed working to establish a future with her husband as a certified counselor. It wasn’t long before things went south. Her new husband became physically abusive towards her, eventually relapsing into a habit of drugs. After months of abuse Rhonda packed everything in a van and left with her sons. With little money earned with her waitress job, the family had to take residence at a small room in an Inn where the presences of drugs were evident. Despite having to raise her sons in a place where she had to escort them to and from the community showers, Rhonda was able to stay enrolled at Harbor College and maintain a 3.7 Grade Point Average. It was from here that Rhonda sought help at our shelter and eventually became a resident in our transitional housing program. Now she has a home of her own, has graduated from Harbor College with an A.A. and cites her biggest accomplishment as breaking completely free from her husband. Her future plans are to open a long term care/treatment program for women and children with backgrounds dealing with abuse and drug usage.

I am in need of help with groceries really badly right now, As well as some summer clothes for my kids it has already been in the high 80's here and they have very few clothes that fit them for this weather.

I have never been on this website before but I think that I was led to it I was googling resources in my area and in frustration of not really finding anything I typed in "Please I need help from up above" and this site was listed!
